WorldFest celebrates diversity in the Tees Valley and showcases world class talent. It is brought to you by Tees Valley Arts in partnership with African Arts Association and Middlesbrough Council.
Middlesbrough Town Hall has played host to Misty in Roots, Horace Andy, Aswad, the late great Gregory Isaacs, Tinariwen and Transglobal Underground as Festival headliners in previous years. 2011 is bringing you the latin sounds of Orquesta Cache. Orquesta Cache's passion for salsa music is infectious and gets both salsa enthusiasts and those new to the sensuous Cuban rhythms straight on the dance floor. Cache are a lively and accessible outfit that bring a vibrant spark to all the different rhythms that make up Salsa - mambo, rumba, cha-cha, bomba, merengue, bolero .....
Dennis Bovell and his band, who were a great hit at WorldFest 2010, will play a set. Dennis was the Creative Director of this year’s BBC4 sensational Reggae Britannia programme.
The evening will open with the Premiere of Tees Tides, a new piece of community music creatively led by Dennis Bovell; Tees Tides will be performed by at least a hundred local musicians and singers and will celebrate the River Tees and the goods, people and cultures that the waters carry in and out, which flow together to make up the history and identity of Teesside.
